Handling roughly 300,000 TEU a year, Palm Beach is Florida's fourth-busiest container port and a dedicated export hub, with about 80% of its cargo outbound. The Bahamas depend on it for some 60% of their consumed goods, while the US Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands are further key markets. All of the raw sugar grown in Florida's Glades region ships through here, more than 700,000 short tons a year, alongside molasses, cement, utility fuels and produce, for total throughput of around 2.8 million tons. Operations span containers, dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk, RoRo and heavy-lift project cargo, with food the leading export. Quays of around 9.4 m suit feeder vessels, RoRo and breakbulk rather than the largest deep-sea ships. About 44,000 TEU – roughly 15% – move by intermodal rail on the Florida East Coast Railway, which switches cars directly on the docks; the port plans to expand that rail capacity and its megayacht facility. Shippers needing deep-water container services can turn to Port Everglades or Miami nearby.
