On Catalonia's Costa Brava, Palamós is a deep natural harbour — one of the deepest in the Mediterranean — that handles a focused mix of commercial cargo. The trade quay on the southern breakwater takes dry bulk, forest products, steel and RoRo, plus project and breakbulk shipments, around 37,000 tonnes a year. Timber is the main import, while tiles, cork and wine lead the exports; the port is run by Ports de la Generalitat. Alongside cargo, Palamós is a notable fishing port and a seasonal cruise call. Hinterland access is by road toward Girona and Barcelona, with no rail link. For container and mainline liner services, Barcelona, some 50 nautical miles to the south-west, remains the reference.
