Despite its medium size, Ormos Aliveriou is not a container port but an industrial bulk berth on the western coast of Euboea (UN/LOCODE GR LVR), about 52 km north-east of Athens, moving roughly 4.34 million tonnes a year. At the Heracles II Pier in Aliveri Bay, the 406-metre north side discharges coal and petcoke while the 350-metre south side loads clinker and cement, chiefly for the Milaki cement works of the HERACLES Group. That plant began a large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in 2024, aiming at net-zero cement. No container liner services call here, so the port suits dry-bulk, liquid-bulk and project consignments tied to local industry rather than boxed freight. Forwarders moving containers for the region rely on Piraeus, the nearest major container gateway. For raw materials feeding the plants around the bay, however, Aliveri remains the direct point of call.
