Wind-turbine towers, nacelles and foundation parts move across the REBO heavy-load quay at Ostend, where components arrive from around the world, are stored and pre-assembled, and are shipped out for installation in the southern North Sea. Some 500 people work permanently in the port's offshore-wind sector, which Ostend has built up as the logistics base for the southern North Sea since 2010. Hinterland access runs via the A10/E40 motorway and road and rail links toward Bruges and Ghent, with customs handled inside the EU single market by the Belgian administration. Forwarders with heavy-lift, wind-energy or RoRo cargo will find Ostend a specialised call, whereas Zeebrugge and Antwerp are stronger options for standard container freight.
