Direct, all-weather berths with about 7.5 m of draft define Okha, a port at the mouth of the Gulf of Kutch on the north-western tip of the Saurashtra peninsula. Its main inbound flow is lignite imported from Indonesia for Gujarat's thermal power stations and for the Tata Chemicals soda-ash plant, alongside regional salt and dry-bulk cargo. This is essentially a bulk and breakbulk port rather than a container facility, set in a coastal economy built on salt works and fishing. Road and rail connect Okha to the Saurashtra hinterland, and since 2024 the Sudarshan Setu bridge links the town to Bet Dwarka island, long served only by ferry. For containerised cargo, the nearby ports of Mundra and Kandla (Deendayal) in the Gulf of Kutch are the gateways.
