# Oban (GB OBA)

**UN/LOCODE:** GB OBA
**Country:** United Kingdom
**Water Body:** North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Natural)
**GPS:** 56.4167, -5.4667

More than 13,000 vessel movements a year pass through Oban on Scotland's west coast, the great majority of them ferries, fishing and leisure craft rather than cargo ships. Sheltered by the island of Kerrera, it is one of the main bases for Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac), with lifeline links to Mull, Lismore, Colonsay, Coll, Tiree and Barra. There is no commercial container or bulk handling; the cargo quay is shallow at around 3.4 m and unsuited to liner freight. Shippers needing containers or larger volumes use the Clyde ports of Glasgow/Greenock or Grangemouth on the east coast.
