# Oakville (CA OAJ)

**UN/LOCODE:** CA OAJ
**Country:** Canada
**Water Body:** Lake Ontario; Great Lakes
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Breakwater)
**GPS:** 43.4333, -79.6667

Declared a Canadian port of entry in 1834 at the mouth of Sixteen Mile Creek, Oakville has long since lost its commercial shipping role. The small harbour on Lake Ontario between Toronto and Hamilton now has little freight relevance, with a very shallow channel of about 1.8 m and no cargo terminals, serving mainly pleasure craft. Containers, bulk and project cargo move instead through the nearby major ports of Hamilton, the leading bulk-handling port on western Lake Ontario, and Toronto.
