Set on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Aqaba in Sinai, Nuwaybi' (Nuweiba) functions chiefly as a RoRo ferry terminal rather than a cargo port. Arab Bridge Maritime runs the crossings to Aqaba in Jordan, with roughly five to eight sailings a week depending on season and journey times from about 1.5 hours. The vessels mainly carry passengers, cars, trucks and trailers on a roll-on/roll-off basis, while containerised or breakbulk freight is marginal. As a sea border point between Egypt and Jordan, customs handling here is geared to passengers and vehicles. Road links run inland toward Sinai and the Nile Valley. For containers or conventional cargo, shippers turn to Egyptian ports such as Port Said, Damietta or Ain Sokhna, or to Aqaba on the Jordanian side.
