Channel and berth depths of about 17 metres, a container capacity climbing from roughly 945,000 TEU toward 1.75 million, and a brand-new semi-automated terminal rated at up to 3.5 million TEU place Sokhna (EG AIS) well beyond what its "Small" label suggests. Beyond containers, Sokhna serves the attached industrial zone with project cargo, heavy lift and dry bulk. Road links and planned rail connect the hinterland toward Greater Cairo. Its position at the canal's southern mouth spares vessels a detour, an advantage for importers. Customs is handled under SCZONE special-zone rules, while Port Said and Alexandria remain alternatives for Egyptian trade.
