# Nisqually Head

**Country:** United States
**Water Body:** Puget Sound; North Pacific Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Natural)
**GPS:** 47.1167, -122.7500

In 1965 the ports of Olympia and Tacoma proposed a deepwater superport at the Nisqually Flats, where Puget Sound drops to some 60 m; the plan was defeated in 1974 when the area became the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. As a result Nisqually Head, a headland on the delta about 24 km east of Olympia, Washington, has no commercial cargo function today. There are no terminals, customs facilities or scheduled freight services at this location. Shippers serving the area route cargo through the Port of Olympia or the container terminal at Tacoma (US TIW).
