Few US ports have pivoted as sharply toward offshore wind as New London (US NLO). On the Thames River in Connecticut, the State Pier has been rebuilt by the Connecticut Port Authority into a marshalling and shipping base for wind farms — South Fork, Revolution Wind and Sunrise Wind, together more than 1,760 MW — with two heavy-lift pads rated near 24 t/m². Conventional breakbulk continues alongside: steel, coil steel, lumber and copper billets still move over the deep-water berth. No regular international container line calls; the port handles project, heavy-lift and breakbulk cargo, plus Long Island Sound ferries. For containerised freight, New York/New Jersey is the nearest alternative.
