APM Terminals helps run the Petlim container facility in Nemrut Bay, the boxed-cargo anchor of one of Turkey's busiest industrial coastlines around Aliağa, north of İzmir. Built to roughly 1.5 million TEU of capacity with about 15.5 metres of water depth, Petlim takes larger vessels that relieve the congested city port of İzmir-Alsancak. Together with the bay's other box terminals, the Aliağa port complex handled about 2.1 million TEU in 2024, up roughly 34 percent on 2023, lifting it into Lloyd's List Top 100 container ports for 2025. The surrounding bay is lined with private industrial berths: the Petkim petrochemical complex, refineries, the Ege Gübre fertiliser terminal and a cluster of electric-arc steel mills. That mix makes scrap metal, petrochemicals, fertiliser and assorted dry and liquid bulk the dominant cargoes, with containers handled mainly at Petlim. A larger new container terminal with a roughly 700 m quay and a rail connection is planned to expand box capacity further. Road and rail tie Aliağa into the western Anatolian hinterland, and for container bookings Petlim is the natural choice, with Alsancak or Mersin as alternatives depending on the trade lane.
