The UN/LOCODE PH NAS marks the government base port of Nasipit, tucked into a sheltered cove southeast of Butuan Bay on Mindanao's Caraga coast. The Philippine Ports Authority runs it through a Port Management Office that also covers the terminal ports of Butuan and Masao, moving roughly 0.85–1.1 million tonnes of cargo a year, including copra, timber products, flour, fertiliser, chemicals, steel and petroleum products. A container quay of about 184 m and dedicated roll-on/roll-off ramps support both Lo/Lo and RoRo services, alongside a passenger terminal linking Manila, Cebu, Bohol and Cagayan de Oro. Hinterland access to Butuan, some 30 road kilometres inland, and to Agusan del Norte is by road only, with no rail connection. International container shipping plays a limited role here, with larger boxship and overseas volumes routed through Cagayan de Oro or Davao. The Philippine Ports Authority tendered a roughly 531-million-peso upgrade and expansion of the port and awarded the contract in early 2026, with a build period of about 660 days. Nationally the authority reported 308.5 million tonnes of throughput in 2025, up 6.6 percent, the backdrop against which regional ports such as Nasipit are being modernised.
