Coded AO MSZ and formerly known as Moçâmedes, Namibe is the iron-ore export port of southern Angola. On the South Atlantic coast, it forms the seaward end of the 855-kilometre Moçâmedes Railway (Namibe Corridor), which brings iron ore from the Cassinga mine plus copper, chromium, titanium and farm produce from the mineral-rich interior. In 2025 the Namibe container terminal was expanded and the Sacomar ore terminal rehabilitated, allowing vessels of up to 50,000 DWT and around 3,000 TEU. Alongside ore and containers, the port supplies the region with consumer goods. The railway currently moves some five to six million tonnes of mineral and agricultural traffic a year. For forwarders, Namibe is primarily a mineral-export port with growing container capacity; for larger box volumes, Lobito further north remains the stronger alternative.
