# Muuga-Port of Tallin (EE MUG)

**UN/LOCODE:** EE MUG

**Water Body:** Gulf of Finland; Baltic Sea; North Atlantic Ocean

**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Breakwater)
**GPS:** 59.5000, 24.9667

Around half of Port of Tallinn's throughput and roughly 40 percent of Estonia's transit cargo pass through Muuga, the country's largest cargo harbour. Lying about 17 kilometres east of Tallinn on the Gulf of Finland, it connects to road and Estonia's broad-gauge rail network as a transit-corridor port. Its cargo mix is wide: liquid bulk such as oil and oil products, containers, dry bulk like fertilisers and grain, plus breakbulk and Ro-Ro. The HHLA TK Estonia container terminal handles vessels up to about 4,000 TEU at 50 to 55 moves per hour; across all of Port of Tallinn, container traffic reached about 261,800 TEU in 2024, up some 18 percent. Depths above 17 metres accommodate large bulk carriers, and a new liquefied methane terminal is under construction. For larger Baltic container volumes, Klaipeda and Gdansk are the practical alternatives.
