Iron ore, coal, fertiliser, furnace oil, edible oils and wheat dominate the imports at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, Pakistan's second-largest port after Karachi. Set in a tidal creek of the Indus delta east of Karachi, Port Qasim handles roughly 35% of the country's maritime cargo across several specialised terminals. Containers move through the Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT, Hutchison Ports) and a second terminal run by DP World, together offering five berths and over 1,300 m of quay. Bulk and industrial traffic uses a multipurpose terminal, the FOTCO oil terminal, the Engro Vopak liquid-chemical terminal and a dedicated iron-ore-and-coal berth serving Pakistan Steel Mills. The port works containers, bulk, breakbulk, oil, chemicals, grain and fertiliser. Hinterland links run by national highways and rail to Punjab and the country's interior, with customs handled by the Collectorate of Customs Port Qasim. For forwarders, Qasim is a key gateway for industrial and project cargo; alternatives are Karachi Port and, for the south-west, Gwadar.
