In the industrial fabric of the Gulf of Trieste, Muggia is a shipbuilding town rather than a cargo port: the Cantiere San Rocco, founded in 1857, made it a hub of Triestine shipbuilding, a role continued today by the San Rocco International Shipyard. No commercial container or general-cargo terminal operates here. Quayside depths reach around 12.5 metres, but the facilities serve industrial and yacht use rather than liner traffic.
