Mourilyan Harbour is a single-commodity port: raw sugar and molasses, and little else. At the mouth of the Moresby River in north Queensland, its bulk sugar terminal loads ships via a rail-mounted gantry at about 1,900 t/h, drawing on the Innisfail, Babinda, Tully and Atherton Tableland cane districts. Annual traffic is around 525,500 tonnes across roughly 26 vessel calls. There is no container or general-cargo handling, and the port is managed by Ports North. Road transport serves the hinterland after the former sugar railway closed in 1997. For boxes and general cargo in north Queensland, Cairns (about 96 km north) and Townsville are the appropriate ports.
