Fertilisers, food oils, animal feed, cereals and chemicals fill the bulk berths of Montoir-de-Bretagne (FR MTX), the main maritime site of the Nantes Saint-Nazaire port complex on the Loire estuary. The terminal is genuinely multipurpose, combining 13 liquid-bulk and 12 dry-bulk berths with RoRo, container and energy operations. Its Elengy LNG terminal ranks among Europe's most efficient and can tranship cargo between LNG carriers. At the RoRo terminal, new vehicles and aircraft components for Airbus make up most of the traffic, with Airbus also running some 240 barge rotations a year. In 2024 LNG throughput fell to about 5 million tonnes, down 38% after a multi-month technical shutdown, while Airbus aerospace flows rose 3%. Container volumes are modest, so shippers with large box flows generally route through Le Havre. With a 12.5-metre channel and 11-metre cargo-pier depth, Montoir handles deep-draught bulkers and car carriers.
