Managed by the Southern Adriatic Sea Port Authority alongside Bari, Brindisi, Barletta and Termoli, Monopoli is a lively bulk port on Puglia's Adriatic coast. Solid bulk has risen sharply, with roughly 106,000 tonnes of cereals, about 126,000 tonnes of chemical products and over 130,000 tonnes of minerals, cement and lime. Powdery bulk is handled through a hopper fitted with a dedusting system, while aggregates are loaded by grab cranes via hoppers directly onto road vehicles. Local stevedoring is provided by operators such as Sicie. A container terminal is not part of the picture: Monopoli serves diversified dry bulk and breakbulk rather than scheduled box traffic. For containers, RoRo or internationally networked services with customs, nearby Bari is the appropriate choice.
