Around 100,000 TEU pass through Mongla each year, handled at roughly 700 TEU per day, making it Bangladesh's second-largest seaport after Chittagong. Set on the Pasur River in Khulna Division, this natural river port moves containers alongside industrial machinery, jute products, fertiliser, grain and assorted bulk commodities. Seven transit sheds and eight warehouses support cargo handling, while a modern tracking system follows consignments from discharge through customs clearance. The port mainly serves southern, western and northern Bangladesh, including the Khulna and Jessore industrial zones. Limited channel depth caps vessel sizes, so large container shipments often route through Chittagong instead. For cargo bound for the country's west and north, however, Mongla offers a shorter, congestion-easing option.
