Listed under UN/LOCODE MA MOH, Mohammedia is Morocco's principal liquid-bulk port, sitting about 23 km northeast of Casablanca on the Atlantic coast. Founded as a fishing harbour in 1913, it grew into the country's main oil terminal alongside the SAMIR refinery, once receiving crude tankers of up to 120,000 tonnes through dedicated pipelines operated by handlers such as Marsa Maroc. Since the refinery's 2015 shutdown the oil terminal has run at roughly 45% of capacity, yet it remains central to national fuel imports. Containerised and general break-bulk traffic is effectively absent here, so forwarders moving boxes or project cargo route through neighbouring Casablanca. For hydrocarbons, bunkers and other liquid bulk, however, Mohammedia is a well-established call. Dry-bulk and phosphate shippers typically use Jorf Lasfar or Safi instead.
