Mytilene's south harbour, sheltered by a long mole, forms the working core of the port on the south-east coast of Lesbos. Its outer section holds a marina and commercial quay on the east side, with the ferry berths to the west. The port supplies the island with breakbulk, foodstuffs and roll-on/roll-off truck loads carried on ferries, rather than scheduled container lines. Up to 23 weekly sailings link Lesbos with Piraeus, Thessaloniki and Kavala, as well as the neighbouring islands of Chios, Samos, Ikaria and Lemnos and parts of the Turkish coast. Operators on the main routes include Blue Star Ferries and Hellenic Seaways. Containerised imports are generally consolidated through Piraeus and fed onward to the island.
