# Miseno

**Country:** Italy
**Water Body:** Tyrrhenian Sea; Mediterranean Sea; North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Small
**GPS:** 40.7882, 14.0911

Once the base of Rome's Tyrrhenian fleet (Classis Misenensis), Miseno gained renewed attention in June 2025 when underwater archaeologists recovered exceptional imperial-era artefacts from the seabed of the ancient harbour of Misenum at Bacoli, on the north-western edge of the Bay of Naples. Today the sheltered natural basin, protected by two breakwaters, functions mainly as a marina for leisure craft and as an anchorage, without container, general-cargo or customs handling. Commercial shippers should route cargo through the Port of Naples, roughly 25 km away, with Pozzuoli covering nearer regional traffic. Miseno has very limited commercial freight relevance.
