Aggregates, limestone, cement and clinker dominate the cargo mix at Saqr Port (AE MSA), the largest dry-bulk port in the Middle East and Africa. Located near Ras Al Khaimah and operated by RAK Ports, the facility runs roughly 47 berths together with RAK Maritime City, with combined capacity of about 100 million tonnes a year and around 70 million tonnes handled in 2024, drawn largely from the emirate's rock quarries. Quayside depths of about 18 metres allow large bulk carriers as well as heavy-lift and project shipments. It is not, however, a container port: boxed freight is better routed via Jebel Ali or Khor Fakkan. Hinterland access runs mainly by road to the northern UAE's quarries and industrial zones. The roughly US$1 billion Saqr 2.0 expansion — 18-metre deep-water berths and up to 72 berths in total — aims to add about 50 million tonnes of capacity and make the site MENA's deepest project-cargo port, with the first phase due around 2027–2028. Forwarders should treat Saqr as a building-materials, breakbulk and heavy-lift gateway rather than a containerised one.
