For decades Bahrain's principal commercial port and customs entry, Mina Salman has seen its container business migrate since 2009 to the newer Khalifa Bin Salman Port at Hidd, linked by a causeway of about five kilometres. Across roughly 80 hectares it still handles general and breakbulk cargo, but it no longer functions as the kingdom's main box gateway. A large share of the site is now naval: it hosts the United States Navy's Naval Support Activity supporting the Fifth Fleet and the United Kingdom's HMS Jufair facility, opened in 2018. In practice, containerised consignments for Bahrain are routed through Khalifa Bin Salman Port rather than here. Major ship repair is available at the nearby ASRY yard with its large dry dock. Shippers needing container services, modern terminals or extensive yard space should plan around Hidd instead.
