Unlike Kuwait's box-handling harbours, Mina Az Zawr (Mina Saud) on the Persian Gulf is built entirely around energy cargoes rather than containers. The original terminal loads crude from the country's southern fields, while the adjacent Al-Zour refinery — at 615,000 barrels a day among the world's largest — entered commercial service in 2022. Its LNG import terminal, with eight tanks of 225,000 cubic metres each, ranks as one of the biggest in the world by storage. Crude, refined products and liquefied natural gas, not general cargo, define everything that moves across these berths. Onward distribution runs through pipelines and the road network into greater Kuwait. Shippers with containerised consignments should use Shuwaikh or Shuaiba instead.
