Twenty berths spread across 2.2 million square metres, with a container yard offering 318,000 square metres of storage, give Mina Ash Shuaybah (Shuaiba) the capacity to handle general cargo, containers, roll-on/roll-off, tankers and barges side by side. Opened in the 1960s as Kuwait's oldest port, it ranks today as the country's second most important commercial gateway, some 45 kilometres south of Kuwait City. Typical traffic includes heavy equipment, raw materials and chemicals feeding the adjacent industrial estate. In December 2025 the Kuwait Ports Authority, which runs the port, signed a memorandum of understanding with the UAE's AD Ports Group to develop and operate its container terminal under a future concession. Its position next to the Shuaiba petrochemical complex makes it a central supply point for Kuwaiti heavy industry. Pure box services also call at Shuwaikh nearer the capital, while crude moves through Mina Al Ahmadi.
