Operated by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Mina Al Fahl is the country's principal crude-export terminal, sitting offshore about 10 km north-west of Muscat on the Gulf of Oman. Loading is done entirely through subsea pipelines and single buoy moorings, with the largest SBM taking tankers of up to 554,000 dwt and no draught restriction. The terminal ships crude and also handles gas oil and jet fuel, but it has no container, breakbulk or RoRo capability of any kind. Throughput runs at around 800,000–900,000 barrels per day; Oman Tank Terminal Company (OTTCO) has added a 2.1-million-barrel floating storage unit (aboard a VLCC) for customers of Oman Export Blend — access awarded to China Oil, Glencore and Oman Trading International (OTI). Inland connections run via crude pipelines from Oman's interior oilfields rather than road, rail or barge. Forwarders with boxed or conventional cargo for Oman use Sohar or Salalah, the country's working commercial gateways. Note: In March 2026 authorities ordered vessels to evacuate; in June 2026 crude oil loading was suspended following an explosion at the terminal.
