Once a coal-exporting dock, Methil on the Firth of Forth has been redeveloped as Energy Park Fife, a fabrication and marshalling base for the offshore-wind industry. Its two deep-water berths give around 345 m of combined quay with charted depths of roughly 4 to 8.5 m, and the site has handled single lifts up to about 12,400 tonnes and vessels up to 350 m in length. The Harland & Wolff (Navantia) yard occupies some 20 hectares and has built jacket structures for the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) wind farm. This is a project-cargo and heavy-industry port rather than a container or liner terminal. Hinterland access in Fife is by road toward Edinburgh and the central belt, and forwarders needing containers, ferries or general breakbulk use Grangemouth, Rosyth or Leith instead.
