Light, low-sulphur Sarir crude is what moves through Marsa al-Hariga, the eastern-Libyan oil terminal next to Tobruk. The crude arrives by a pipeline of roughly 510 km from the southern Sarir fields and is stored in about 4 million barrels of capacity (some 3 million usable) before loading onto tankers up to VLCC size, with part of the volume feeding the local Tobruk refinery. The terminal is run by the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO), a subsidiary of Libya's National Oil Corporation. This is an energy port: containers, breakbulk and general customs clearance are not part of its remit, and operations have historically been exposed to blockades and political stoppages. Project and general cargo for the region is better routed via Benghazi, while Es Sider and Zueitina serve as alternative crude-loading terminals.
