More an industrial and ship-repair centre than a commercial cargo gateway, Menzel Bourguiba is built around four dry docks and some 50 ha of yards on Lake Bizerte. As part of the Bizerte–Menzel Bourguiba multipurpose port, it chiefly handles dry bulk — coal, minerals, steel and zinc — alongside its repair and fabrication work. The cargo quay reaches about 9.4 m, and the combined port complex moves roughly 5 million tonnes a year across some 500 vessel calls. Container lines and conventional general-cargo imports, however, barely feature here. Road and rail tie the site to Tunis and the northern hinterland. For containers and general import freight, Radès in greater Tunis is the main Tunisian option, with Bizerte and Sfax as further alternatives.
