Mehamn, home to roughly 800 people on Norway's Nordkyn Peninsula in Finnmark, is the northernmost port of call on the Hurtigruten coastal route, sitting at the southern end of the Mehamnfjorden bay off the Barents Sea. The settlement grew around its natural harbour and access to rich Barents Sea fishing grounds, and fishing remains the town's principal industry today. From the 1700s until Russia's 1917 revolution, Mehamn was also a hub for Pomor trade, the historic exchange of fish, grain and goods between northern Norway and Russia. As a freight port its role is limited: cargo handling centres on fish products and regional supply goods, with no meaningful container or general cargo throughput. Hinterland access runs via county road Fv888 and Mehamn Airport, while larger freight ports with customs facilities are found in Kirkenes and Hammerfest.
