**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Breakwater)
**GPS:** 19.0500, -104.3167

1,737,022 TEU moved through Manzanillo (MX ZLO) between January and May 2026, keeping the Colima port on Mexico's Pacific coast well ahead of every other container gateway in the country; full-year 2025 came in at about 3.89 million TEU. Four terminals share the work: SSA Marine Mexico (roughly 1.65 million TEU in 2025), Contecon Manzanillo (about 1.55 million), Timsa and Ocupa. Transpacific imports, consumer goods, automotive parts and reefer cargo such as produce dominate, with bulk commodities and petroleum products alongside them. Carrier coverage is deep: MSC launched its Sierra transpacific service at Contecon in August 2026 on a Qingdao–Tianjin–Busan–Manzanillo–Lázaro Cárdenas rotation, Maersk serves the port on its AC1 and AC2 Asia–Mexico loops, and CMA CGM calls via the revised ACSA1. A channel depth of about 15.5 metres accommodates large container vessels. Ferromex rail and highway corridors link the quays to Mexico City, Guadalajara and the Bajío manufacturing belt, while Mexican customs (ANAM/SAT) clear high import and export volumes here, making Manzanillo the Pacific coast's main clearance point. Between 2026 and 2030 the Puerto Nuevo project on the Laguna de Cuyutlán will expand the port estate from 450 to more than 1,880 hectares with five additional terminals; the Naval Ministry (SEMAR) puts the public investment at around 20.5 billion pesos and expects container throughput to triple. Lázaro Cárdenas on the Pacific and Veracruz on the Gulf remain the practical alternatives.
