Three graving docks measuring up to 360 by 60 metres, some 1,550 metres of quay and a roughly 100-hectare site make Mangalia the largest shipbuilding and repair yard on the Black Sea. Since 2018 the facility has operated as Damen Shipyards Mangalia, taking over the former Daewoo plant (DMHI) under joint ownership of Damen and the Romanian state. Its work centres on newbuilding, conversion and repair of ocean-going vessels rather than on cargo or container handling. Reached seaward via Black Sea routes, the yard is tightly linked to the region's marine supply industry. Standard commercial import and export clearance is not handled here. For containers, bulk and project cargo, shippers use Constanța, Romania's main seaport about 45 km to the north, complemented by Midia.
