# Porto Di Malamocco

**Country:** Italy
**Water Body:** Adriatic Sea; Mediterranean Sea; North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Canal or Lake
**GPS:** 45.3333, 12.3167

Cut between 1964 and 1969, the Malamocco–Marghera canal gave deep-draught ships a direct route from the Adriatic to Venice's industrial port without crossing the historic city. The Malamocco inlet itself is that gateway channel rather than a cargo facility: it has no terminals of its own, and tankers, bulkers and box ships bound for the lagoon are worked upstream at Porto Marghera, which accepts drafts up to about 11.5 metres. For booking purposes, forwarders should treat Venice/Porto Marghera as the actual port, with Ravenna or Chioggia as Adriatic alternatives.
