# Makushin

**Country:** United States
**Water Body:** Bering Sea; North Pacific Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Open Roadstead
**GPS:** 53.7667, -166.9833

On the western shore of Unalaska Island in the Aleutian chain, Makushin Bay is a sheltered open roadstead rather than a developed cargo facility. It offers anchorage but no container berths, quay cranes or customs infrastructure, so its relevance for freight forwarders is limited. Shipments bound for the Aleutians are handled at Dutch Harbor on the island's eastern side, the leading commercial fishing port in the United States, which manages over 40,000 tonnes of cargo and some 800 vessel calls a year. Makushin remains useful mainly as a protected anchorage and in connection with regional geothermal activity.
