Picture a string of buoy moorings off the Senegalese coast rather than a quay lined with cranes: the M Bao Oil Terminal (SN MBA) is an offshore facility with three Conventional Buoy Moorings, about 23 km from Dakar. It offloads crude oil, LPG and ammonia and loads sulphuric and phosphoric acid, feeding the adjacent SAR (Société Africaine de Raffinage) refinery rated at roughly 1.35 million tonnes a year, or 27,000 barrels per day. Since 2025 the refinery has also processed Senegal's own Sangomar crude for the first time. Boxed and general cargo for Senegal moves instead through the nearby Port of Dakar and its container terminal.
