Six berths — one for crude, five for refined products, able to take supertankers up to 500,000 dwt — define the freight weight of the Lysekil name, but they sit at Brofjorden, the Preemraff refinery port a few kilometres from the town itself. Lysekil's own municipal harbour (SE LYS) on the Skagerrak is small, with a quay depth around 6.4 m used for breakbulk, project and supply cargo plus ferry traffic; it runs no scheduled container service. Brofjorden handles roughly 22 million tonnes a year, making it Sweden's largest oil port and second-largest port overall. Crude, diesel and kerosene volumes therefore belong at Brofjorden, while general and project pieces can use the town quay. Hinterland access is by road toward Uddevalla and Gothenburg. For containers, shippers route to Gothenburg, Scandinavia's biggest port, with Wallhamn as a RoRo alternative.
