More than 570,000 tonnes of international cargo crossed Loviisa's quays in 2016, about three-quarters of it exports, underlining this Gulf of Finland port's role as a specialist in forestry products and bulk. Known locally as the Port of Valko, the site offers five berths, a RoRo ramp, four mobile cranes and roughly 44,000 m² of warehousing for timber, forest-industry goods and construction materials. Since 2017 the operating company has been 60% owned by the Port of Helsinki and 40% by the City of Loviisa. As an EU port, customs runs under Union procedures, with standard import and export formalities applying to third-country consignments. There is no regular container line call here, so boxed traffic is better handled at HaminaKotka or Helsinki, while Loviisa's strength lies in breakbulk and project cargo.
