QSL, the Canadian stevedoring group that took over former operator Integrated Logistics, runs the bulk cargo wharf at Long Pond, on the south shore of Conception Bay about 24 kilometres from St. John's. The 220-tonne crane pad and adjoining storage sheds handle iron ore, aggregates, cement, rebar and animal feed, while an onsite pipeline is used for fuel oil distribution. There is no container terminal, and reefer or RoRo capacity is not available; the port's role is squarely bulk and breakbulk cargo. Ownership passed from the federal government to the Town of Conception Bay South, and the site connects to the Trans-Canada Highway for road haulage, since Newfoundland has had no rail service since 1988. Businesses needing container or general cargo handling typically use the nearby ports of St. John's or Argentia instead. A proposed Ocean Choice International wharf and cold-storage expansion has faced years of local opposition and remains unbuilt.
