Established in 1934, Little Port Walter is the oldest continuously operated research station in Alaska, run by NOAA Fisheries at the southern tip of Baranof Island for salmon and marine studies. It is not a commercial harbour: there are no container or general-cargo operations, no liner calls and no customs facilities at this remote, boat- or floatplane-access site. Shippers moving goods in Southeast Alaska rely instead on the regional ports of Sitka and Juneau, with their ferry and supply links.
