PT LIS marks Lisbon, Portugal's third-largest port after Sines and Leixões, which handled about 481,400 TEU and some 11.5 million tonnes of cargo in 2025 on the Tagus estuary. Container work is split across three terminals — Alcântara (Liscont, operated by Yilport), Santa Apolónia (Sotagus) and the multipurpose TSA — with a combined capacity of roughly 1.2 million TEU. Maersk runs weekly services calling Lisbon, Leixões and Sines, MSC, CMA CGM and Grimaldi also serve Portuguese ports, and liner links reach Felixstowe, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Piraeus and Alexandria. Beyond boxes, the port handles grain, vehicles, breakbulk and a busy cruise trade. The hinterland centres on greater Lisbon, Portugal's largest consumption and manufacturing region, served by motorway and rail, with clearance under the EU Union Customs Code through the Portuguese tax and customs authority. For pure deep-sea transhipment, Sines offers greater capacity, while Setúbal absorbs vehicle and breakbulk flows.
