Levanger's quays once mattered more to fjord trade than they do today; the harbour on the eastern shore of the Trondheim Fjord, about 80 km north-east of Trondheim, now handles mainly local fishing and recreational traffic. With pier depths of only some 3.4–4.6 m, no regular ferry or liner cargo and limited commercial throughput, it is best treated as a minor port. Project cargo and industrial bulk are better routed through nearby Verdal, home to an offshore fabrication yard, or through the port of Trondheim.
