On Cape Lazarev in Khabarovsk Krai, at the narrowest point of the Nevelskoy Strait, Lazarev (RU LAZ) sits barely seven kilometres from Sakhalin's shore at Pogibi. This small coastal port has four berths totalling 582 metres of quay and depths of about 4.9 to 7.6 metres, handling mainly coastal cargo - fuel, construction materials and fish products. There is no container or international liner service here, and the place is best known as the mainland end of the never-completed Stalin tunnel to Sakhalin. For the rail ferry to the island and larger throughput, shippers use Vanino and Kholmsk, with De-Kastri and Nikolayevsk-on-Amur for other regional cargo.
