Operated by EMP Malacca Strait — formerly Kondur Petroleum — the Lalang Marine Terminal is a crude-oil export point off Padang Island in the Strait of Malacca, not a general-cargo port. Crude from the Lalang, Kurau and Melibur fields is sent to the floating storage barge OSB Ladinda (around one million barrels) and loaded into tankers via a Single Point Offshore Loading System (SPOLS) in ship-to-ship transfers. Production in the Malacca Strait block has run since 1984. There is no cargo quay (berth depth 0 m) and no container, breakbulk or dry-bulk handling. As an offshore roadstead it has no conventional hinterland link; its sole function is seaborne crude export. Shippers needing container or general-cargo capacity in Riau use Dumai or Belawan in North Sumatra.
