With deep-water berths of 16 to 25 metres and a container capacity of around 450,000 TEU at its outer harbour, A Coruña is a versatile cargo port on Spain's north-western coast. Operations split between the historic inner port and Punta Langosteira, the outer port some ten kilometres to the west, built to take large bulk carriers and container ships. Bulk accounts for roughly 30 percent of throughput, led by agri-food and cereals — A Coruña ranks as the leading grain port of the Atlantic-Cantabrian coast — alongside liquid cargo for the nearby Repsol refinery and boxes via the TMGA (Noatum) terminal. Mechanised conveyor systems handle dry bulk unloading, and Exolum is advancing a new terminal at Langosteira — an investment of over €100 million — to handle liquid fuels, ammonia and CO2 as green energy vectors; in June 2026 the Port Authority launched the formal public consultation period for the project, with operations targeted for 2029–2030. Road and rail tie the port into Galicia and north-west Spain. For pure container flows Vigo is the stronger Galician option, with Ferrol a further bulk alternative.
