Grecian Magnesite and the magnesite deposits around Mantoudi explain the very existence of Kymasi, the port of Mantoudi on the north coast of Euboea, facing the North Euboean Gulf. The jetty, with a cargo pier around 7.9 metres deep, was developed essentially to ship the magnesite and magnesia products mined and processed in the area, as dry bulk rather than containers. Euboea's once-important magnesite mining has declined sharply and now runs only on a small scale, which limits throughput here. Hinterland links run by road to the inland mines and works. For container and general cargo in the Aegean, Piraeus or Volos are the relevant ports.
