Adani Krishnapatnam Port handled a record 59.22 million tonnes of cargo in fiscal year 2025-26, up eight percent year-on-year, including a best-ever monthly figure of 5.85 million tonnes in June 2025. Located in Nellore district on India's east coast on the Bay of Bengal, about 180 kilometres north of Chennai, it was India's first private greenfield deep-water port built from the outset for round-the-clock, all-weather operations. Its ten berths offer an 18-metre draft alongside, the deepest of any Indian port, and it is the only port in the country able to handle five deep-draft Capesize bulk carriers simultaneously. Long known as India's coal hub, the port has recently diversified its cargo mix to include laterite, soda ash, rock phosphate and yellow peas. Operator Adani Krishnapatnam Port Ltd (AKPL) dispatched 6,006 rail rakes during the year, the highest number since the port opened, using a dedicated rail siding that links to the national network near the Chennai-Howrah line. A container terminal with a design capacity of 5 to 7 million TEU a year complements the bulk business, supported by a container freight station agreement with state-run Container Corporation of India (CONCOR). Shippers outside the immediate east-coast catchment can also consider Chennai or Visakhapatnam for container services.
