Roughly 1,000 vessels and about 1.2 million tonnes of cargo move through Kolding each year, at the head of Kolding Fjord in south-east Jutland. The container share is small — around 200 TEU annually — so the port works mainly as a general-cargo and bulk facility. Its strength is Railport Kolding: seven loading tracks of about 1,750 metres and some 56,900 m² of storage, including six halls for paper and coils, with rail running to every pier. Maximum draught is 7.0 metres, and the largest vessel handled was a 44,750 dwt bulk carrier. Lying about 3.5 nautical miles from the Little Belt (Lillebælt), the port connects inland via the E20 and E45 motorways, which cross at Kolding. For full container services, forwarders use Fredericia, Esbjerg or Aabenraa.
